Thoughts on Thanksgiving

My thoughts on the Thanksgiving holiday: Obviously the "First Thanksgiving" story we were all taught as kids is B.S. and my deepest apologies to my Indigenous brothers and sisters for everything. I'm also not religious, so not really into the whole being grateful to god thing.

That said, I think the USA as a whole could stand to have a bit more gratitude in its existence and a specific day set aside to think about the good things in your life and who you should be thanking for that is a good idea.

If you had friends who picked you up when you were down, if you were one of the lucky ones born into a good family, if your teachers opened your mind and showed you more of the world - now is a good time to sit back and remember to thank them.

If you're fed, sheltered and clothed and maybe have a little bit extra, now is a good time to be that helping hand to someone else, and remind yourself that there's a whole year of struggle, not just around the holidays and keep that in mind.

And while you're at it, thank your furry friends for being a comfort in trying times. Remember that domestic animals are completely dependent on humans, and that the ones in the shelters need love too. We all need each other

I hope you all have loved ones to spend time with this year, and please take time to thank everyone who has given a little joy to your life. The artists, the casual acquaintances who smiled at you or reached out in some way. And if I haven't told you yet - I appreciate you.
